Monday Morning Tonic

In my environment here in Nigeria, the word “tonic” is powerful. It invokes rejuvenation. So, when you appear somehow frail, a friend would advise you to buy some blood tonic to drink.

Many consumers of Guinness stout fall in love with it because they believe it’s a form of tonic that gives energy. This may not be unconnected with the fact that the drink actually looks like a blood tonic.

As someone who has been sleeping with only one eye closed on Sunday nights for several years, I can testify to how dreadful Monday mornings could be. Monday is one day you don’t want to get late to work. And the morning hours are usually crazy both on the road and at work.

You know it.

I do too.

If there is any day of the week that workers very much long for extra energy, it is Monday.

But I don’t expect you to start drinking any blood tonic on a Monday morning. Neither do I advise that you take a bottle of stout before leaving home.

Rather, you may want to copy what I do most Monday mornings as I wake up. I lift up my spirit with life enriching songs. And I read motivational books with helpful quotes. By the time I’m finally out of the house, I’m fully prepared (at least psychologically) to face the day’s challenges.

It’s a few minutes past midnight as I write, so it is already Monday morning. But it is not yet time to set out for the day. As usual, my Monday morning tonic is ready. It is a double-tonic from two great women; both of whom are great achievers. One of the two quotes is from actress Shelley Duvall, and it says:

“No matter what it is, pick yourself up and go on to the next project.”

That’s a fantastic tonic with which to start a Monday morning.

The second one is from the famous Talk Show Host, Oprah Winfrey. It says:

“The biggest secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.”

So, whatever your frustrations may be; whatever feelings you may have about this particular Monday morning, I can only hope that you would drink one of the tonics from these wonderful women.

Have a wonderful Monday and a fun-filled week ahead.
